Dumpster King Modeling Reel

This is my reel from 2012 that was done at the Vancouver Film School over the course of six months. I'm still very proud of it because the Dumpster King Reel was my very first animation project and I won the first prize at the CG Student Awards in 2013 ( now "The Rookies" ) in the category Viewers Choice and got an honourable mention for it. Instead of a usual modeling diorama seen in other modeling reels, I decided to make a good mixture of showing my technical skill, atmosphere and storytelling.

Living in Vancouver, I had the city as a nice reference pool available. Before starting with the actual process of modeling, I grabbed my camera and walked through the streets and alleys of downtown to make myself a catalogue with assets and inspiration. It helped a lot during the process of building the world of the Dumpster King. For inspiration I used movies such as Goodfellas, Sopranos and of course Grand Theft Auto.
